The Department of Engineering & Technology (E&T) at SUU invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank with an August 2020 starting date. The role of this position is to support the educational mission of the E&T Department in providing high-quality instruction in undergraduate engineering and technology. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to teach courses in the E&T undergraduate program curricula.

The department is seeking a faculty member with a strong interest in teaching and skill sets that complement the current faculty and needs of the programs. The primary area of interest is transportation engineering but other areas related to civil engineering may also be considered. Applications will be reviewed starting March 12th and applications will continue to be received until the position is filled. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:
1) Teach a broad range of undergraduate courses in the discipline area of civil engineering. The department is committed to offering a high-quality educational experience for students. Teaching responsibilities may include but are not limited to undergraduate courses in the following areas: transportation engineering, hydraulics, civil engineering materials, water and wastewater, environmental engineering, surveying, laboratory courses.
2) Fulfill department assessment duties related to the E&T programs' ABET accreditation.
3) Bring civil engineering professional/industry expertise and technologies to our growing programs.
4) Develop and design curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement.
5) Participate in departmental discussions and decisions related to the content, learning outcomes, and pedagogy in the programs.
6) Mentor and advise students.
7) Conduct activities associated with scholarly development and participate in department, college, and university service.

Required Qualifications

1) A Ph.D. in civil engineering or a closely related field. Candidates with a Ph.D. in Engineering Education with the technical background to teach in civil engineering are encouraged to apply.

2) An ability to teach introductory mechanics courses such as statics, dynamics, strength of materials, etc.

3) Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal relationship skills.

4) Commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduate engineering students as evidenced by the applicant's teaching statement.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Teaching experience with demonstrated accomplishment at the undergraduate level.

2. Industry experience in civil engineering.

3. A background in transportation engineering.

4. Ability to teach Matlab programming.

5. Ability to teach engineering courses for AutoCAD products such as Civil 3D and Revit.

6. Professional registration (P.E.) as a civil engineer in any state or the ability to obtain professional registration within a few years.
