About the Department of Computer Science and Information Security (CSIS):

The CSIS department represents an array of disciplines that utilize all manner of technology to teach industry-relevant skills in computer science, programming, software engineering, information technology, and cybersecurity. The Computer Science degree is accredited by ABET, and the Cybersecurity degree is designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence (NCAE-C). Additionally, we have a Masters degree in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance, and are developing a Masters in Computer Science. The department is growing, and currently serves approximately 300 undergraduate majors and 35 graduate majors.

Job Description:

The Department of Computer Science and Information Security at Southern Utah University invites applications for a full-time open rank tenure-track faculty position to begin August 2023. The preferred candidate holds a PhD or DSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment and ability to teach at the undergraduate level.

Although preference is given to candidates with a completed PhD by the appointment start date, ABDs who will complete the PhD within one year from their start date will be considered.

Position includes benefits that may include relocation expenses to hired candidates for on-site employment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate Computer Science courses, use of effective teaching strategies, and curriculum development. All faculty teach courses at the undergraduate level, and we are currently developing a master's program in computer science which may allow for teaching at that level. Additional responsibilities include scholarly activity, active participation on service committees, and other duties as needed to support a robust and dynamic environment for student learning. Experience with accreditation is a plus.

1. Provide quality educational experiences in Computer Science for majors and non-majors in a student-centered environment. Tenure-track faculty teach 24 credit hours per year (4 courses per semester). Faculty may be expected to teach in face-to-face, hybrid, or purely online modalities.
2. Although we are primarily a teaching institution, tenure-track faculty do have an expectation to engage collaboratively with students and/or peers on scholarly activity that generates peer-reviewed publications.
3. Active participation and collaboration with the department to enhance a robust Computer Science curriculum based upon industry standards as communicated by an Industry Advisory Board (IAB).
4. Participate in and support the continuance of the program accreditation within the Department.
5. Fulfill service opportunities within the department, college, and university.

Education and Experience Requirements:

1. PhD or DSc degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field within the broad scope of Computer Science.
2. Commitment and ability to deliver quality teaching.
3. Effective communication skills and the ability to interact positively with faculty, staff, and students.
4. Evidence of research/scholarly activity.
