Job Description:

The Recreation and Wellness Department is excited to announce the opening of Recreation Assistant within the Division of Student Affairs. This position reports directly to the Director of Recreation and Wellness and helps with all areas of the department including; T-Bird Recreation, Health and Wellness, and SUU Outdoors. This position will be full-time and scheduled in the evenings. This position will have a tremendous amount of variety due to the range of activities and responsibilities of such a diverse department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Setup for recreational and wellness programming including; setting up fields and courts for Intramural Leagues, Single Day Tournaments, Local Events and Area Programming with SUU Outdoors, and a multitude of events for SUU's Health and Wellness Center.

- Coordinate In-Service trainings and Audits for Aquatics, PE Bldg Managers, and Fitness Center Attendants.

- Oversee monthly credit card audit, money handling training, and other fiscal responsibilities that are similar.

- Maintain budgets, including: preparation of monthly reports; requisitions and purchase orders; travel authorizations and reimbursements; and student payroll.

- Use Microsoft Office Suite, Google Services, and other technologies to create, maintain, and update files, reports, and publications.

- Help set up and tear down and run aquatics events including; programming events, water polo tournaments, and swim meets.

- Maintain multiple websites.

- Oversee ordering of equipment and supplies and maintain, or supervise the maintenance of, files and office equipment in various office locations.

- Assist in a wide-array of recreation and wellness initiatives under the direction of the Director of SUU Recreation and Wellness.

- Provide direct support to the Director of SUU Recreation and Wellness and any other professional staff including Assistant Directors and/or Coordinators.

- Demonstrate a consistent positive attitude and rapport with University personnel and the public.

- Hire, train, and supervise student workers.

- Become knowledgeable in recreation and wellness and provide a wide-array of services associated therewith.

- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:


  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Familiarity with recreational programming.
  • Familiarity with computer programs including Microsoft Office and Google.
  • Knowledge of grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Attention to detail.
  • History of dependability, reliability, initiative, neat appearance, and an outgoing personality.
  • Proven management and organizational abilities to plan and independently execute projects/tasks within specific deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Organizational ability to respond to multiple project requirements simultaneously and on a frequent basis.
  • Working knowledge of or the ability to acquire a working knowledge of Banner, the -University's student and financial management software.


  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience in Higher Education.
  • Experience in a Recreation or Wellness setting.
  • Website maintenance.
  • Aquatics based experience.
