Job Description:

The Center for Hope Lead Teacher will be an integral part of the full time staff at the SUU Child Care. The Lead Teacher will be responsible for the daily care of a group of children and also act as a mentor for student/assistant teachers in the classroom.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide developmentally appropriate care and positive guidance for infants, toddlers, and/or preschoolers, in a safe and secure environment at the SUU Center for Hope
  2. Facilitate child-led, play-based, emergent curriculum that nurtures the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of young children. Curriculum should include opportunities for children to explore, investigate, and question.
  3. Set up and maintain play spaces to support development and Developmentally Appropriate Practice curriculum approach.
  4. Support children's social development including facilitating problem solving and conflict resolution.
  5. Be responsible for physical care of the children including caring for toileting and feeding needs, and appropriate sleep patterns.
  6. Supervise, mentor, and oversee assistant teachers and university teachers in classrooms.
  7. Maintain open communication with parents and other involved parties through face to face communication, center software, and other meetings as needed.
  8. Regularly hold parent teacher conferences to involve parents in their child's development.
  9. Maintain confidentiality in compliance with FERPA and other applicable laws.
  10. Understand and ensure Utah Child Care Licensing Rules and Regulations are followed.
  11. Work to meet and maintain high quality standards for CCQS and NAEYC Accreditation standards.
  12. Oversee the ASQ developmental screening process for children in their prospective classes, including associated parent teacher communication.
  13. Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
  14. Work cooperatively with the Child Care Manager, SUU Preschool Staff, and other center teachers and staff.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Family Life and Human Development, or other Human Services/Development degree preferred.
  2. Candidates with a Child Development Associate or other credential with relevant experience may be considered.
  3. Experience in an early childhood education and/or care setting.
  4. Experience working as part of a collaborative team.
  5. Experience working with parents.
  6. Experience mentoring or training others, especially college age students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience working with groups of infants and toddlers, and/or preschoolers required. Experience as a lead teacher in a center setting preferred.
  2. Must be at least 21 years old and able to pass the Licensing Background Check.
  3. Current Food Handler's Permit or ability to obtain.
  4. Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification for infants and children from Red Cross, American Heart Association or ability to obtain.
  5. Must enjoy working with children, be committed to working through challenges, motivated to learn and be punctual.
  6. Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
