Job Description:

The Inclusion Coordinator is directly responsible for overseeing a coordinated approach to providing inclusion services necessary for Head Start children to be successful in the classroom. Will organize and coordinate the program's disability services effort and stay current on all special education laws (IDEA) and civil rights laws (section 504 and Americans with Disabilities Act) and implications for the program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Serve as lead to develop and implement an ongoing monitoring system that includes file reviews, analysis of data and progress of children to ensure quality of services are met for children with disabilities. (20%)
  2. Work with the management and education team to develop Behavior Support Plans as needed and coordinate accommodations and adaptations. Provide guidance and developmentally appropriate strategies to maximize successful inclusion of students. (20%)
  3. Prepare and review monthly myHeadStart data and other reports to monitor screenings, referrals, follow-up and outcomes. Compile information on services provided, in-kind donations, data for program PIR and other required reports. (10%)
  4. Coordinate and process the development of IEP's and referrals for special education diagnostic evaluations, obtain reports and confirmation of needed services by qualified professionals. (20%)
  5. Perform pre-assessment classroom visits within 45 days. Collaborate with staff to ensure completion of developmental screenings. Provide follow up, site visits, training and documentation as needed. (10%)

Additional Duties:

  1. Participate in team meetings, IEP meetings, planning sessions and other training to assist in the coordination of program services (5%)
  2. Participate in the program self-assessment, community needs assessment and recruitment efforts (2%)
  3. Maintain strong working partnerships with service providers and district staff including participation in meetings to prepare current Memorandums of Understanding (5%)
  4. Work with education staff to support the transition of children from special education programs. Conducts end-of-year IEP reviews for children transitioning to kindergarten (5%)
  5. Other duties as assigned by supervisor (3%)

Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Three years of recent paid experience working in the Special Education field.
2. Ability to work with diverse groups and contribute to a climate of inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Bachelors Degree in Education field
2. Experience with Early Childhood Development and assessment
3. Experience using Microsoft Office, Google Suite and Zoom
