Job Description:
The Tony-award winning UTAH SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL, a professional theatre company in residence at Southern Utah University, is accepting applications for Production Staff for the 2023 season. The Utah Shakespeare Festival produces an seven-show repertory season and three Greenshows across four venues in the summer/fall of each year. Position details below.
Contract dates vary by position, check dates in specific job descriptions.
- Deck Carpenter: Contracts begin as early as March 5th and as late April 30th and run through early September 12th or October 12th (depends on theatre assignment).
- Junior Carpenters/painters/prop interns begin April 30th and run through early September 12th or October 12th (depending on theatre assignment).
- Stage Crew: Contracts begin May 28th and run through early September 12th or October 12th (depending on theatre assignment).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deck Carpenter: Responsible for load in, running, organization of storage, daily changeovers and maintenance of scenery and props for a theater (Engelstad, Randall, or Anes). Contracts begin April 30th and run through early September 12th or October 12th (depending on theatre assignment). Works with Scenery Director on stage crew schedule and necessary adjustments. Working on lifts or ladders and ability to lift 50 pounds required.
- Junior Carpenters/painters/prop interns: Participate in creation of scenery and props for first 5 weeks of contract then transition to crew. Responsible for load in, running, storage, daily changeovers and maintenance of scenery and props for assigned productions. Contracts begin April 30th and run through early September 12th or October 12th (depending on theatre assignment). Working on lifts or ladders and ability to lift 50 pounds required.
- Stage Crew: Responsible for load in, running, storage, and changeovers of scenery and props for assigned productions. Contracts begin May 28th and run through early September 12th or October 12th (depending on theatre assignment). Working on lifts or ladders and ability to lift 50 pounds required.
**All crew positions will be required to work some hours between 12am and 8am**
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Deck Carpenter: Experience with theatrical scenic construction, theatrical rigging, loadin and strike required. Previous experience working in a repertory company or professional theater and leading crews desired.
- Junior Carpenters/painters/prop interns: Previous experience with fabrication in desired discipline is required. Experience working backstage on theatrical productions desired.
- Stage Crew: Previous theatrical experience required.
