Job Description:
Responsible for effective maintenance, carpentry, cabinet making, concrete, drywall, carpet installation, and other construction-related activities to help maintain proper function and safety of campus. Supervise student carpenter assistants and others as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise student employees. Instruct them in proper use of equipment, tools and construction procedures.
- Responsible for building and roof inspections, roof inventory, equipment and expedition of related work, planning and scheduling. Including new construction, remodel and general maintenance painting.
- Keeping SDS sheets on all products that are used in this area.
- Work with and control the storage and safety of all of harmful and hazardous materials used for the paint department.
- Operate/maintain and repair tools, such as saws, pneumatic tools, taping tools, proper use of scaffolding, ladders, forklifts, grinders and buffers, hand and power tools.
- Must be able to perform necessary building maintenance and construction related activities including framing, acoustical ceiling grid and tile, concrete, drywall repairs and other construction related task.
- Operate and keep records on a computer.
- May perform some phases of construction, including but not limited to carpentry, concrete, welding, and other duties as may be assigned. etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Education, Training and Skills
- Graduation from high school or equivalent GED. College experience preferred.
- Training in Building Maintenance, to include: finish carpentry, drywall, painting, and related trades.
- Basic computer knowledge, including knowledge of the following computer programs:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Google Platform
- Demonstrated leadership qualities, strong human relations abilities, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of State and Federal regulations applicable to the area of responsibility.

- Vendors & Contractors
- Attend training and receive certifications related to position, including software and OSHA training.
- Must be able to work with power and hand tools.
- Knowledge of applicable local and national codes required.
- Must have the ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbal, with Facilities Management staff regarding critical information, shift occurrences, work orders, problems, upcoming needs, and tasks beyond the individual's scope and capability.
- Must have a current Utah Driver's License.
Experience
- Two years combined experience in commercial construction
- Experience in commercial and light industrial construction, building maintenance to include: hardware installation, setting doors, concrete, carpentry and drywall.
- Proven ability to complete tasks and assignments with excellent workmanship and code knowledge.
Working Conditions
- Works indoors or out, in all seasons, often in industrial settings typical to a higher education setting.
- Must be able to work overhead and in confined conditions and work from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated platforms, as required
- Must be able to respond to after-hours emergencies and reside within 20 minutes of SUU for emergency response.
- Travels in a university vehicle as required, sometimes overnight.
- Must be able to adjust work schedule to meet the needs of the University.
