Job Description:

The Head Start teacher, along with their teaching team, is responsible for classroom operation including individualized planning and implementation for students, maintaining a safe classroom environment and engaging appropriate behavior management strategies. Supervises a class of up to 20, 3 to 5 year old children.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:

  1. Responsible for day-to-day set up of classroom, planning and implementing curriculum including individualizing for children, monitoring development and ensuring accurate data is collected. (20%)
  2. Provide a positive classroom environment through building relationships, implementing age-appropriate expectations and allowing for child-directed opportunities. (20%)
  3. Demonstrate and model good health, nutrition, safety and behavior management practices. (15%)
  4. Maintains accurate classroom inventory and regularly cleans and disinfects classroom and playground area. (15%)
  5. Attend required training and implement practices, procedures and expectations. (15%)

Additional Duties:

  1. Support parents/guardians in their role as primary educator of their child through an engaging relationship. Conduct at least two parent-teacher conferences and home visits each year. Ensure screenings, assessments and evaluations are completed and review with parents. (5%)
  2. Coordinate with family advocate on parent meetings, attends and presents classroom updates and training. (5%)
  3. Other duties assigned by supervisor. (5%)

Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Associates Degree required.
  2. Early childhood experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree.
  2. Experiences with google suite, zoom and general computer knowledge.
