Job Description:
The Basecamp Manager of SUU Outdoors reports directly to the Assistant Director of SUU Outdoors and is directly responsible for Basecamp operations. Additionally, they will oversee all Basecamp Staff Trainings and help out with other department areas as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create, distribute & maintain Social Media presence for Basecamp Operations.
- Create and develop a student work week schedule for each semester, including summer semester.
- Coordinate and carry out trainings for Student Staff.
- Assist with the initial hiring of Student Staff.
- Mentor student leaders with their goals & development, through 1:1s & other methods.
- Be knowledgeable of all University policies and be willing to enforce and uphold them.
- Work and coordinate with the Assistant Director to ensure the success of Basecamp Operations in the broader scope of SUU Outdoors' Mission and Vision.
- Assist with oversight, inventory and maintenance of all rental, retail and programming equipment
- Oversee onboarding and weekly training of Student Staff.
- Audit, amend and update Staff Manual as needed.
- Assist with creating, scheduling and carrying out bi-weekly Outdoor Educational Series (OES) and clinics
- Keep Basecamp organized and clean.
- Other duties as assigned.
Time commitment:
- 29hrs/week.
- Attend workshops, clinics and trainings as necessary and scheduled.
- Scheduled in-services and meetings.
- Supervision and direction over special events.
- Scheduled classes, programs and events at Basecamp.
- Most weekdays and some weekends.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Dependable and trustworthy.
- Excellent people and communication skills.
- Ability to work with all ages, groups and supervision over peers.
- Ability to work autonomously and in teams.
- Bachelor's degree required in business, outdoor recreation or related field.
- One year experience or more in business management, outdoor recreation equipment rentals, hiring, training, evaluating and supervising staff, budgeting, scheduling and leading trips.
- One year experience or more in customer service, teaching clinics/workshops and outdoor recreation risk management.
- Computer literacy (word processing, spreadsheets, publications programs, database programs).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, problem-solving and conflict management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Wilderness First Responder and CPR (current and valid).
- Challenge course certification with Associated Challenge Course Technologies (ACCT) or Professional Ropes Course Association (PRCA).
- 2 year or more experience hiring, training, evaluating and supervising staff, budgeting, scheduling and leading trips, customer service, teaching clinics/workshops and outdoor recreation risk management.
- Proven business management skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to student development in management practices and leadership.
- Experience in coordinating and implementing special events.
- Experience in marketing, promotions and communications.
- Ability to collaborate well with internal and external constituents.
